Greenland is an incredible land.
It
is stunningly beautiful and offers a full range of climbing and
mountaineering at every level. We will venture into totally virgin
territory, where every step is the first footprint. Predominantly
perfect weather and nearly 24-hour daylight allows for a wide window of
opportunity.
The Sortebrae Ranges are in north east
Greenland between the Rignys Bjerg Mountains & Borge Tinde Massif, with
surrounding peaks up to 3000m. The area is close to the Greenland
icecap, with stunning views out towards the east coast and the ice
packed Denmark Straits. Based within the Arctic Circle we will be setting up our base camp at 1800m.

We will
journey up onto the ice cap, traveling over glaciers, and pulling all of
our equipment on pulks with skis. As we travel along the glacier
system we will be making first ascents of the surrounding mountains.
Our journey will start on 4th & 5th May, when the team departs from the
UK to Greenland via Iceland. We will collect all of our kit and
equipment in Iceland, before our final transfer, via a Twin Otter plane
that will take up directly to the icecap. There we will set up our base
camp, and for 4 weeks we will be living in tents, where daily
temperatures will average out at minus 15 degrees Celcius. From
here we will begin our exploration of this beautiful and remote land.
The team will return to Iceland (weather permitting) on 1st June 2007,
and will travel home, returning to the UK, on 3rd June.
