In May 2007 I was part of
a team of 6 women who ventured off into the 'last unexplored wilderness' of
Arctic Greenland. Base camp was on a glacier at 1300m between two
mountainous and imposing ridgelines stretching up towards the Greenland
icecap. From there, we journeyed across the vastness of the glacier
system, pulking our gear and climbing along the way. Unfortunately for
me, my expedition was cut short, and I was evacuated out early.
However the rest of the Chicks team were successful despite bad weather and
tent bound days.

The Sortebrae Ranges
The Sortebrae Ranges
are within the Arctic Circle in north east
Greenland between the Rignys Bjerg Mountains & Borge Tinde Massif, with
surrounding peaks up to 3000m. The area is close to the Greenland
icecap, with stunning views out towards the east coast and the ice
packed Denmark Straits.

Weather
To keep up to
date on what the
weather is like
in the region we are in
(its not quite where we are, but the closest town is Scoresbysund (Illoqqortoormiut)
which is about 175km north east of our position. However as the
town is 90m above sea level and our base camp will be at 1800m,
it
will be a little bit more chilly! Average daily temperatures will
be around -15 Celsius, but can dip as low at -30 Celsius.
